Think, Imagine, Create

The main objective of Clwb Camera Cefni photography club is to encourage its members to take photos while learning to love the craft more.

It is a community of photographers with varied interest and skill levels.

Sharing ideas and knowledge to promote creativity and learning photography. As photographers we want to expand our abilities and to promote growth of artistic and technical knowledge of photography. We will accomplish this through monthly meetings, presentations and field trips.

We are an informal, friendly, and supportive environment for photographers at all levels of experience and with interests in all types of photographic imagery. The Club fosters and encourages growth of artistic vision and technical knowledge, exploring the connection between the eye, the camera, and the spirit. We share ideas and knowledge with each other and help to promote interest in photography.

And yet, as photographers we understand it to be so much more than that.

Learning, planning, preparing, equipping and preparation of the final image are all aspects of our craft which we celebrate at Clwb Camera Cefni.

All the images seen on this website are the work of our membership.

About Us & Our History

An Historical Perspective: B. Grail (Chairman)

A camera club (Clwb Camera Cefni) has been in existence in the Llangefni area for many years – probably since the early seventies. However much of its history is vague and largely anecdotal. So I would like to start with a plea for information. If you know anything of the club’s history – past officers, members, significant dates or even photographs please let us know. It would be good to properly chronicle the development of this local camera club.

The club was formed when Dr Glyn Jones of Brysiencyn approached Derec Owen about setting up a club in central Anglesey to encourage local photographers. Derec recruited local individuals that he knew were interested in photography and approached Warren Morris and Edyth Harrison, who at that time ran the photographic club at Anglesey County Council, to set up Clwb Camera Cefni.

I joined the club around 2016 and was immediately taken by the enthusiasm of its members and the welcoming, friendly atmosphere. Meetings were held in the church hall adjacent to St Cyngar’s church every fortnight. Edyth Harrison was the club secretary and was a major force behind the organisation and the success of the club. As mentioned, Edyth has been a club member since its early days and carried out the role of secretary for probably best part of 30 years. Her commitment to the club was recognised by the North Wales Photographic Association (NWPA), who awarded her “Hon NWPA”. I took over the role of Chairman from Joe Groom when he relocated to Scotland to be nearer family.

An enthusiastic and experienced photographer Joe was the club Chairman for several years, helping to develop the club’s inclusive and friendly atmosphere. The role of Vice Chairman was, and still is, performed by David Brady. David has been a club member for many years and is actively involved in club competitions and events. Chris Copeland was club treasurer for many years before passing the role onto Wendy Grail and then David Peers. The club ran several competitions for its members, both printed and projected digital images (PDI), which were organised by competition secretary Sue Jones and then Charles Meadows.

In 2019 the COVID 19 pandemic brought our meetings to an abrupt halt and prevented face-to-face meetings. This forced inactivity took a toll on the club such that it was difficult to see what the future held for it. However there was a real enthusiasm amongst local photographers to get the club and up and running again. So with help from the NWPA and members taking on the roles of secretary, treasurer and programme secretary a schedule of monthly talks was launched in February 2023. The meetings moved to a new venue, Canolfan Ebeneser, and have been well supported with new members eager to see the club succeed. Hopefully the club will go from strength to strength and can be a prominent and active member of the NWPA.
Please contact our Secretary if you are able to offer additional details with regard to the history of the Clwb.
